Woolfest at the weekend. On the way home, we visited Castlerigg stone circle, fulsomely described by English Heritage as “perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles, with panoramic views and the mountains of Helvellyn and High Seat as a backdrop”. Picture the scene.

Only sans snow because hottest week of the year etc etc.
And the boys christened it. As only they can. With a FIGHT!

I do think this picture we took at Whitby a while back was frighteningly prophetic.

When I get round to it, I will photo the Woolfest purchases – a Shetland grey fleece and a pound of black, raw merino. But for now, here’s something that distracted me on the way home in Appleby, Westmorland. Which is where I have ancestors (Birds and Stephensons), and we did find a gravestone but inexplicably I forgot to photo it. We did, however, photograph this:
